What Are The Differences Between Neurotoxins & Dermal Fillers?
This is a question that I frequently get asked during initial consultations. Neurotoxins and Dermal Fillers are both used to reverse the signs of aging. The difference between the two is how they work.
Neurotoxins such as Botox, Dysport and Xeomin are used to soften and prevent wrinkles by relaxing the muscles that are causing them. The most common areas where neurotoxins are used to soften wrinkles are the glabella (the area between your eyebrows that make the angry looking 11 lines), the forehead and the crows feet! It takes about 7-14 days for the neurotoxin to kick in and it lasts about 3 months. After it wears off, your muscles return to full movement. The lines and wrinkles do not become worse after the neurotoxin wears off, they will just slowly return to what they were if you do not stay consistent with treatments every 3-4 months.
Dermal Fillers such a Restylane, Juvederm, Voluma, Radiesse and Sculptra are used to restore volume. As we age our fat pads in the face shrink, we lose collagen, and our bone structure changes. Dermal fillers are injected into specific areas to lift your face and restore the youthfulness you once had. Fillers last anywhere from months to years, depending on which product is used.
Looking for a subtle lip enhancement? Many Dermal fillers are also used for the lips, but gone are the days of the “overdone” look. We strive for natural and subtle lip results.
