It’s that time of year again to reflect on the year that we have left behind and focus on the New Year ahead. Resolutions get written with the best intentions. Statistically, only 8% of people are successful in achieving their resolution goals, and according to Statistic Brain, weight loss is still the number one resolution. Interestingly enough, being better to your skin didn’t make the list, but it’s probably the most important, as your skin is your largest organ!
Here are a few easy resolutions that you can implement right away that will put you on the path to better, more radiant and healthier skin:
#1: Get Your Beauty Sleep. Lack of sleep can certainly affect mental alertness, but being tired can also be reflected in your complexion. When you sleep, your body is the most metabolically active, ridding itself of harmful toxins! Basically, if you are tired, everyone will know. So, turn off that phone and TV before bed and get a good 7-8 hours of “beauty sleep” – your body and your face will appreciate it, as it also helps your immune system when you sleep well.
#2: Don’t Forget About Your Neck. We tend to focus more on our face and our wrinkles when we apply skincare, or get injectables, but having a face that looks 25 and a neck that looks 45 is no bueno! Make sure you remember to moisturize, exfoliate and apply sunscreen to your neck, too. Botox is a great injection for neck lines and wrinkles and we offer effective medical grade moisturizers, specifically for the neck.
#3. Sunscreen, Sunscreen, Sunscreen. Need we say more? Now more than ever, you need to be protecting your skin from the harmful rays of the Florida sunshine. Choose sunscreen containing both UVA and UVB protection that won’t clog pores. We recommend: ELTA MD. A great lightweight formula with zinc oxide that is great for sensitive and acne prone skin.
#4. Don’t Pick Your Face. We have all been guilty of this one at one time or another. The bottom line – don’t touch your face or pick at your blemishes. Not only are you adding dirt and oil to your face, but you can also scar your skin if you try to take things into your own hands. Leave the extractions to the professionals, as they are using sterile tools and are trained on how to repair your skin. If you can’t get in to see someone, at home spot treatments work, too.
#5. Schedule a Facial or Peel. Having a good skincare regimen is a must, but it’s also a very good idea to schedule a facial or medical grade peel every month or two to penetrate your skin on a deeper level to really clean your pores and extract impurities that you cannot see or feel. Not only will your skin feel amazing, but your skincare products will work much better, too!
#6. Evaluate Your Products. When is the last time you went through your cabinet and checked to see how old your skincare products are? Are you using the right products for your skin type? A good rule of thumb is to throw away products that are 2+ years old. You can tell if the product is expired by the color, consistency and smell. If you aren’t sure if your products are still effective, bring them in to us and we can help you assess what you should keep, throw away, or help you start a new skincare regimen altogether.
So, when you are thinking about what you want to achieve for the New Year, include some of these great skin care resolutions. They are simple and easy to achieve – and you don’t have to do them all. Pick your top 2-3 and try to stick to them.
