You’ve invested time and money into lip fillers, so naturally, you want that pretty pout to last! Even though this treatment is minimally invasive with little downtime, taking proper care of your lip filler from the get-go will put you on the right track to maintaining those gorgeous results. Here we offer tips on how to do just that…
Tip #1: Avoid exercise and alcohol. Reduce the risk of swelling and bruising by avoiding exercise and alcohol for at least 48 hours after treatment.
Tip #2: Keep your lips hydrated. Keeping your lips hydrated is key to maintaining your lip filler results, and there are several products that can help. Our favorites include Image Ormedic Lip Enhancement Complex and Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask (for nighttime hydration).
Tip #3: Maintain a healthy diet. Excessive amounts of junk food can lead to inflammation, thus resulting in a quicker breakdown of your filler. To maintain your desired results, eat a healthy that includes lots of fruits, vegetables, and healthy fats. It’s also important to stay hydrated, so make sure you drink plenty of water!
Tip #4: Apply SPF regularly. Facial skin is delicate and prone to damage from harmful UV rays. The same goes for your lips! To protect your lips and maintain your filler, use lip care that includes SPF such as the Skin NV Lip Plumping Treatment with SPF 30.
Tip #5: Be mindful of how your lips and body move. Clearly, you’re not going to stop talking, eating, or breathing, BUT you should be mindful of other movements that involve the lips (i.e., using a straw). Also, pay attention to how long and hard you exercise. While fitness is of vital importance to your physical and mental health, your filler may break down faster due to long, sweaty workouts. If decreasing your intensity isn’t possible, regular touch-ups may be required.
Tip #6: Stay on top of your maintenance appointments. We typically recommend a maintenance visit every 12 months; however, the frequency of touch-ups varies for each individual and his or her desired results. Some people prefer to touch up at the six or nine-month mark, while others have no choice because the filler wasn’t properly maintained. Lip Flips with Botox can be done every three months to keep your pout plump between maintenance appointments.
